Common Questions and Answers

The Mustang Club of San Diego wants your car show experience to be the best possible. Below are some answers to commonly asked questions about the event:

  1. General Parking: For 2018, the entire parking lot area at the Embarcadero Marina Park show site is reserved for show sponsors, volunteers and handicapped access. As a result, the parking area will be closed to the public (once registration is closed) and autos will be instructed to continue around the circle at the entrance.  Public parking is available curbside, outside the event, and at Seaport Village.
Seaport Village parking fees are "
Validated self-parking: $5 for the first 3 hours or part thereof; $3 every 30 minutes thereafter or part thereof. Validation with a minimum $10 purchase.  Non-validated self parking: $8 per hour or part thereof."
  2. When will participants be allowed to park and when can we leave? General participant parking will commence at 7:00am and close at 9:30am. The show is scheduled to end between 3-3:30pm and participants cannot leave or start their engines prior to the end of show. Once the show ends, you will have 45 minutes to vacate the park area.
  3. Hotel Accommodations: We have not negotiated any host hotels. San Diego has an extensive offering of hotels and we suggest you try a hotel search engine (such as Kayak or to find the hotel that best fits your needs and budget.
  4. Is there a discount for multiple cars from the same owner?   No.  Every auto registrant will need to prepay the $35 registration fee. Each auto entrant will receive a t-shirt and dash plaque in their bag. We do not offer discounts for multiple vehicles. Remember a portion of the event proceeds will be donated to various charities.
  5. Will registrations be available the day of show?    No.  All participants will need to pre-register prior to the show (the registration cutoff date is October 7, 2018). There will be no “day of show” registrations available.
  6. Is there food available at the show?  As always, the Boy Scouts will be providing both breakfast and lunch during the event (love the breakfast burritos!). They always surprise us with a great menu and fast service. Proceeds from their food booth help sponsor Boy Scout activities throughout the year.
  7. How does the car judging work?  The show is broken down by generations. Mustangs are divided into “6” generations for both stock and modified classes (see the registration form) and each Mustang will park with their respective class. Judges will grade each entry based on criteria including paint, interior, engine and engine compartment, fit and finish, rims and tires and quality of mods (if applicable), etc… Remember, Mustangs by the Bay is meant to be a fun car "show" and not a "competition" and the judges are not working to MCA or concours standards.  We plan to be give out lots of trophies. Auto enthusiasts who would like to be part of the judging panel should contact Jennifer Cardoza, Car Show Chairman, for more information.  Use this handy check list to determine your car's class.
  8. Trailer Parking: Trailers are not allowed to park “on the grass” at the Embarcadero Marina Park.  Because of the congested downtown location, we do not have a designated trailer parking area.  Some nearby open air style lots may be able to accommodate you.
  9. Final Details: You may NOT: have tents, pop-ups or put stakes in the grass / parking area, you cannot display “for sale” signs and absolutely NO wheel spinning on the grass.  Flying drones is also Strictly Prohibited.
