Mustang Sallies!

I joined the MCSD in 1982, and served as Board Secretary, VP and the first lady President. I feel like the “matriarch” of the club in some ways.
When the Mustang first came out in 1964 I thought it was pretty cool but later when the Fastback was displayed I went ga-ga over it! Had to have one! The ’65 is pretty stock! I’ve tried to keep it the same as it was in ’65. I have added the styled steel wheels. The ’65 attended the Mustang 20th anniversary at LA’s Griffith Park in 1984 and also the 50th party in Las Vegas.
The ’73 is also stock except for the color. Ford didn’t offer black in ’73! Can you believe it? It was an all blue car which I did not care for and I chose black with white interior.
My daily driver for 5 years had been a ’55 Thunderbird, (bought her in 1960). Thought of trading her in on the Mustang but was offered $700. Needless to say, I turned that down! She is still in my garage currently under going restoration….slowly!
As you can see, I have been a Ford lady from the get-go. Got that from my dad. Being in the Mustang business for a while helped me continue my “addiction.” Both of my daughters received Mustangs as teenagers: A 68 GT coupe and a 67 convertible. I continue to try and do minor repairs when necessary but do have a garage I feel comfortable taking my “babies” to for major stuff. My old body doesn’t like crawling under cars too much any more.

Long story short, in 2004ish I owned a 2002 convertible, white with a tan top. I didn’t really care for the style or the color combination but I knew I liked the convertible. In my travels, I came across a Wind Veil Blue BMW and thought “that would be a sweet color on a Mustang.” One problem, FORD didn’t use that color.. ..not until 2005 and then the hunt was on. When they came out with the 2005 Mustang, I fell in love with the style and I also knew I wanted that BMW color, Wind Veil Blue.
I was single and couldn’t afford a new car so I searched every week for the next 2 years for my Sally.
One day I was browsing NFCU’s used car page and there she was! It wasn’t about her specs, it was the color! I applied for a loan online without seeing her, got approved and had her within the week.
Since then, I married Michael, and his enthusiasm for Mustangs rolled over to me. I don’t have to tell you how it feels to drop the top and turn up the music! I will always own a Mustang convertible from this day forward. The bonds that I have made with the car community is just as strong as my love for my Sally!

I am the proud owner of a 2001 Dark Highland Green Bullitt, #4968. I have owned the car since September 2013 and she has changed my life. Literally. Until the Bullitt, aka “the Sexy Beast”, I had never cared much about cars. They were just transportation. The Bullitt receives a lot of attention so my first plan of action was to the learn the stats of the car. I would pace in my living room repeating over and over, “265 hp, 305 ft lbs of torque, 5,582 produced, staggered wheels, 9s in the front, 10s in the back, Eibach lower springs, Magnaflow Magnapacks” etc…
I had never named a car before but found myself naming the Bullitt “Charisma”. I also found myself attending car shows which I had never cared about. I even found myself sitting on an ottoman at 5:00 in the morning, cleaning her wheels WITH A TOOTHBRUSH to get ready for a show! I have had great support from the members of this club who have taught me how to take care of a show car and continue to teach me “what’s under the hood”.
She has won numerous trophies since I’ve owned her. She has her own Facebook page, Instagram account, and custom stiletto heels. OK, those are actually mine but they were designed to honor the car. I submitted photos to be voted on by the IM-BOC (International Mustang Bullitt Owners Club) owners for the 2016 and the upcoming 2018 Bullitt calendar. She was selected for both!
I have had so much fun with this car. I have learned a lot and she has turned me into a “car chick”. I love this car and what she has done for me.

I received my ‘66 Mustang as a graduation present in 1968, her name is Agnes Willoughby and I still have her.
Then in 2004 I took delivery of the first new style of the 2005 GT, which I named The Silver Bullet, she too shares the garage with Agnes. I guess that makes me a true Mustang Girl. Have been in the club since the early80’s.

I have been a member of the club for about a year. Not much time to enjoy the club adventures yet. I actually restored my car which I had owned for more than 25 years. I am the second owner and the Mustang has about 86K original miles on her. It is a 1971 Grande with a stock 302.
I had the original landau top and paint done. I personally restored the interior. Putting a lot of heart and sole into those seats and door panels.
My father was one of the biggest used car salesman here in the late 50’s and 60’s. So we always had cars of all kinds. My first car was a Mustang 68 Fastback when I was 18, and there it began… I had a 64 1/2 GT with a 289 in my twenty’s.
But this Grande is my last Mustang. Fixed it up for my grandson who has just turned 16. Although not his daily driver… he will be driving it! And the Mustang love continues.

I wanted a sportier car when our last daughter went to college. I was watching a Padre game and saw an ad for the 2005 SDS, a numbered limited edition available in summer. I wanted a manual transmission and the dealer had only one. It was black and had chromed Wheels. The selling point for me was the number. Number 002 of 200.
In 2012 I decided that 05 V-6 was not enough power, I needed a V-8. KP Ford found me a “gently used” 2011 California Special. My salesman joked that they need to make a Southwest Special for me since I went from San Diego Special to a California Special. My 2017 is all my brother’s fault. He lives in North Carolina and had traded in his 2014 for a 2016. He told me I would love the new models. I went on the Ford website and after putting together all the features I wanted, it ended up being another California Special!
My all time favorite car was a 1991 Ford Taurus SHO, 5-Speed manual with the Yamaha engine. I never thought I could find it’s replacement, but the 2017 is making me forget all about my “first love.”

In the Mustang world, the slogan of “You can’t eat just one” translates to the Mustang lover as “You can’t own just one”. For the past year I have been searching off and on for an addition to my little family. I have always liked the look of the 2005-2009 GT Mustang. Never in a hurry, I searched the internet, waiting for THE ONE to pick ME! Meet Olivia, Bruno’s sister!
Olivia is a Legend Lime 2006 GT and as backwards as it is. . . . SHE is my daily driver! The first thing I did after taking ownership was to register her with the Legend Lime registry. She is #969! The second thing I did was accept the generous gift of new rims for my birthday from my honey Lou. While most women want flowers, shoes or perfume I prefer CAR PARTS!!!!! Therefore, I just received lowering springs, a panhard bar, hood struts, new headlights, new grill with fog lights and new stripes! After these few mods, I will be done. Sure, right. . . . Famous last words of Victoria.

I have always loved the Mustang since I could drive. I always dreamed of owning a bright red mustang convertible. Then in 2010 I needed to get a new car. I had always been responsible and always got the “mom” car; but this time it was different. Frank took me to the Ford Dealership and I saw a bright red convertible just sitting there. It had the retro look and feel that I loved. I looked at it and walked by looking at the Ford Flex as this was the responsible thing to do.
Well, after a day of looking at cars Frank asked me what car I wanted. I told him I really wanted the Mustang convertible but I would go with a 4-door sedan. Frank said you should get the car you want and he bought me the convertible.
I loved that car but then at a Gearhead rendezvous we were all gathered around looking at the cars and this 2007 Windveil Blue supercharged coupe was off by itself with the hood open. Jo Bechtel noticed that it was getting ready to leave and yelled “wait we haven’t seen your beautiful car”.
Several of us went over to admire the beauty and he said it was for sale. I couldn’t believe my ears. This car had me at hello. She was absolutely beautiful. Jo was asking Mike to come over and I was trying to get Frank’s attention. Frank came over and saw what he calls the “sparkle” in my eye and knew I wanted that car.
I told Jo if she wanted the car I would not interfere; but Jo and Mike decided not to go forward. Then I found out another member was on the phone with their bank. I was heartbroken but I figured if it was meant to be it would happen.
A few minutes later he came up to me and told me if I wanted the car he was bowing out. My heart soared! I asked Jim (the owner) if I could take it on a test drive. He gave me his address and I told him we would be there in 10 minutes. As I was leaving another member came to me and said if I was going to sell my convertible they were interested in buying it. Needless to say, I bought the coupe and promptly renamed her the Vixen. While I sold my dream car, my dream changed for the growl of the V8. I absolutely love the Vixen! One day I may get another convertible but for right now I am one happy woman!
